Light Requirements
Indoors: Begonias prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Outdoors: In gardens, they do well in partial shade or filtered light. Some types, like wax begonias, can tolerate more sun.
Watering
Begonias like their soil consistently moist but not soggy.
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid letting the plant sit in water, which can cause root rot.
Water at the base of the plant to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal issues.
Soil
Use well-draining potting soil rich in organic matter. A good mix can include peat moss, perlite, and potting soil.
Begonias do not like heavy, waterlogged soil, so ensure there’s good drainage, especially in pots.
Humidity and Temperature
Begonias thrive in moderate to high humidity. If growing indoors in a dry climate, consider using a humidity tray or misting occasionally.
Ideal temperatures range from 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C).
