Small pink or white flowers adorn the succulent sub-shrubs known as crassulas. Although they are native to Mozambique and South Africa, they are frequently grown as houseplants in colder climates. The unusual plant Crassula ovata 'Gollum' has trumpet-shaped, tubular leaves. It resembles a small tree, and as it ages, the branching trunk gets thicker. It is an excellent specimen for a bonsai and can grow to a height of 80cm. In winter, it may produce clusters of tiny, pinkish-white, white or pinkish-white flowers with pink stamens. Grow in cactus compost in indoor pots in light, airy conditions. Use minimal watering and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks.
