Dieffenbachia Canes or Dieffenbachia Tropic Snow Dieffenbachia, also known as dumb cane or leopard lily, is a genus of tropical flowering plants in the family Araceae. It is also known as Dieffenbachia Seguine 'Reeva' or Dieffenbachia Dumb Canes. Scientific Name: Dieffenbachia Family: Araceae Dieffenbachia Dumb Cane nickname comes from its nature to cause a mouth swelling whoever eats it,  which makes them unable to speak or "dumb". It also means that when you buy a Dieffenbachia and put it in your home, office or living area. Make sure your children or pets do not eat it. How to Care for your Dieffenbachia? If you happens to buy a Dieffenbachia make sure you know the following basic rules to take care of your plant. Light: Dieffenbachia prefers filtered sunlight or indirect sunlight. If you put it in direct sunlight its leaves will burn and turn yellow which causes your plant a serious problem. You can place your dieffenbachia also in outdoor but in a shady area where temperature is controlled i.e. Corridor, near to main entrance or near to your window also. Low Light: Dieffenbachia can also survive in low light but growth will not reach to its full level. However its leaves will remain smaller, growth might be limited and you will not experience full glooming and design patter of the leaf. Temperature: Dieffenbachia plant can thrive best in temperature ranges from 18-25°C (64.4-77°F). If you want to put a dieffenbachia in your room with an average room temperature it is also good for it. While temperature should not be dropped from 15°C because it could cause harm to your plant also. Can We put a Dieffenbachia in Outdoor area (United Arab Emirates)?: In summer the temperature could rise to 40°C or above. If you put your plant direct to sunlight obviously it will cause in the destruction of your plant. You can place your Dieffenbachia in shady area where there is some fresh air passing. You can put it in main Corridor, Terrace or Balcony where extreme weather couldn't bother it. Remember to take your plant inside before it gets chilly in UAE! Humidity: Dieffenbachia thrives in moist conditions, with the ideal humidity level falling between 60-70%. Even with the ability to tolerate humidity levels down to 40%, it might exhibit symptoms of distress, such as browning leaf edges or drooping. An environment with moderate humidity leads to strong plant growth, since the big leaves can become dehydrated in a hot space. In order to raise the moisture levels around the plant, you can mist it twice a week, position a humidifier close to it, or place it on a tray filled with water and pebbles. Repotting: Dieffenbachia plants may require repotting occasionally to ensure they have fresh soil and space for further growth. How often you need to repot a plant will vary based on its size, the pot's size, and how quickly it grows.Typically, it is recommended to replant your Dumb Cane plant every 2 years or when you observe the roots overcrowding the pot and protruding from the drainage openings. Soil: Dumb Cane plants thrive in Potting Soil that drains well and has a slightly acidic pH of 6.0-6.5. Using a combination of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite is a recommended choice. Prevent soil that is too dense and doesn't have proper drainage. Propagation: Dieffenbachias can be easily propagated, but rooting may take longer. You can spread them when your plant becomes too tall or leggy or simply for the pleasure of it. It is advisable to wear safety gloves while cutting / propagating because when you cut Dieffenbachia releases milk which can cause itchiness and swelling to your eye or mouth.
