Sansevieria Snake Plant Laurentii, Type H3, 10LP, 70-80CM Sansevieria, commonly known as the Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, is a hardy and low-maintenance houseplant popular for its striking, upright leaves and its ability to thrive in a wide range of indoor environments. Sansevieria trifasciata is the most common species referred to as the Snake Plant, but there are many varieties with different leaf shapes, sizes, and patterns. Characteristics:Foliage: The plant features long, sword-like leaves that grow upright in a rosette pattern. The leaves are thick, stiff, and succulent-like, with pointed tips. Depending on the variety, the leaves may be dark green, variegated with yellow or white edges, or banded with horizontal stripes of lighter green or grayish green.Size: Snake plants can range from small, compact varieties (about 15-30 cm or 6-12 inches tall) to larger types that can grow over 1 meter (3 feet) tall. Their growth is relatively slow, but they can live for many years with proper care.Flowers: Although rare, Snake Plants can occasionally produce small, greenish-white flowers in clusters on a long stalk. The flowers have a pleasant fragrance, but flowering is infrequent, especially when grown indoors.Growing Conditions:Light: Snake Plants are highly adaptable to different light levels. They can tolerate low-light conditions, making them ideal for dimly lit rooms, but they also thrive in bright, indirect light. For optimal growth, place the plant in a spot with medium to bright indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may slow down growth.Watering: Sansevieria is drought-tolerant and prefers to dry out between waterings. Water sparingly, about once every 2-4 weeks, depending on the environment. Overwatering is the most common issue with Snake Plants and can lead to root rot. Ensure the soil is dry before watering again, and always use a pot with drainage holes to avoid waterlogging.Soil: A well-draining, sandy or cactus mix is ideal for Snake Plants. You can also use regular potting soil mixed with perlite or sand to improve drainage.Temperature: Snake Plants prefer temperatures between 18-30°C (65-85°F). They can tolerate cooler temperatures but should be protected from cold drafts or temperatures below 10°C (50°F).Humidity: Sansevieria is not particular about humidity levels and can thrive in both low and high humidity environments, making it an excellent choice for homes with dry air.Care and Maintenance:Fertilizing: Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.Pruning: Pruning is rarely necessary for Snake Plants. However, you can remove any damaged or dead leaves at the base of the plant to keep it looking neat.Repotting: Repot Snake Plants every 2-3 years or when they outgrow their pot. They prefer to be slightly root-bound, so only move to a larger pot if the plant is becoming too crowded. Use fresh, well-draining soil when repotting. *Disclaimer: The graphic is just meant to be used as a guide and illustration purposes.
