The Rubber Plant is a popular ornamental house plant in temperate climates. It is a broadleaf evergreen tree that flowers and belongs to the Mulberry family. The tree can reach a height of 100 feet if left to its own devices in the wild. It rarely flowers when grown indoors, and it is typically kept to a height of 2 to 10 feet with support or training as needed. The rubber plant is recognized for its glossy, eye-catching, foot-long, dark green leaves with pink or purple stipules that look great both indoors and outdoors. and variant varieties are offered. The edible fig's Latin name is where the genus name originates. The milky sap that was formerly used to make rubber is referenced in the species name.
Rubber Plants thrive in dry soil with medium relative humidity, low light, and temperatures above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Plant in a soil-based potting mix indoors, protected from the afternoon sun and bright indirect light or partial shade. Water frequently, but do not overdo it. When the plant is dormant, which is from fall to late winter, cut back on watering completely.
